Going Broke?
Medical Coverage
A man comes into the ER and yells, "My wife's going to have her baby in the cab!"
I grabbed my stuff, rushed out to the cab, lifted the lady's dress, and began to take off her underwear. Suddenly, I noticed that there were several cabs -- and that I was in the wrong one.

Leave the Bull at the door. Let's get this out of the way, first.
At the risk of sounding like a born-again fitness jerk, I have the proof that exercise works. After turning 65, quitting smoking and putting in time at the gym for 6 months, my medical condition is absolutely clean with no prescriptions, an even blood pressure, happy cholesterol levels, no headaches, no creaking bones, no snap-crackle-pop in my joints, mild arthritis gone, and my muscle strength and energy levels are at least double, not to mention that my balance is back to normal. Maybe I haven't become pretty and slinky women don't try to pinch my bottom in dark rooms, but don't think for a minute that all that effort isn't worth it. Slacker Jack feels thirty-five on the inside and wants to stay that way. An hour per day every day, baby, only one hour per day.
The number one reason health care costs are so high?
You and Me.
Politicians know this but can't talk about it because they'd lose their jobs. Doctors have been harping on it for years but everyone ignores them. Insurance (medical) companies have known it for decades but have little impact.
It's our lifestyles.
What do you think would happen to premiums if insurance companies required that we as individuals would have to earn good coverage: No smoking, no drinking, proper diet, and daily exercise? Rates would be so low that we really could afford a national health care plan. The problem is there are millions of people out there with life choice ailments. They may have used drugs, slept with high risk partners, smoked two packs a day for decades, are suffering the results of obesity, or any number of other dumb things. Yet they want to be taken care of after the crap hits the fan, they want a baby sitter. We need to take a close look at ourselves. We have become a country of dependents, not independents.
The second reason medical costs are so high? Fraud.
It is estimated that upwards to 35% and 40% of Medicare payouts are fraudulent claims. And no one is doing anything about it. $70 to $100 BILLION. And that's just for the old folks coverage. So how much money would be lost in a government run health care plan for everyone? Frigging TRILLIONS. How could anyone ever vote for something like that? But I don't really see that as happening anyway. They want to reduce coverage for 56 million seniors who worked their entire lives in order that people who are not working can be covered. Do they think seniors are going to stand for that? Any senator or representative voting that way had best begin looking for a new line of work. 'Throw the bums out' will be the battle cry during the next election. But if the new plan goes through anyway, seniors better start ducking With controlled compensation, doctors are saying they will retire early and the number of new doctors will slow to a trickle.
The third disgrace concerning the medical community is the exorbitant amounts of money juries give to people winning tort cases against doctors and hospitals.
You can't reduce the killer insurance premium costs which are passed along to the client until there is tort reform.
So there are three things which are gobbling up billions and billions of dollars and nothing will be rectified by this new proposal. Therefore nothing is changed and there is only so much that can be done with the revenue available.
Government run coverage is going to suck really, really bad.

Tough Love vs. Spanking
Some people think it improper to spank grandchildren when they have one of 'those moments.' This is an alternative .
I was caring for a woman and asked, "So, how's your breakfast this morning?"
"It's very good, except for the Kentucky Jelly. I can't seem to get used to the taste," the patient replied. I then asked to see the jelly, and the woman produced
a foil packet labeled "KY Jelly."

Doctors:
(A) The number of physicians in the U.S. Is 700,000.
(B) Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171. Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services.
Guns:
(A) The number of gun owners in the U.S. Is 80,000,000. (Yes, that's 80 million)
(B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
(C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is .000188. Statistics courtesy of FBI
So, statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more Dangerous than gun owners. Remember, 'Guns don't kill people, doctors do.'
FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.
Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!
[Out of concern for the public at large, I withheld the statistics On lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek Medical attention!]

For Lazy Guys
Read This! A Scary View of the Future.
The Senate version of the "stimulus" bill includes provisions for extensive "rationing" of health care for senior citizens. The author of this part of the bill, former senator Tom Daschle, was credited by Bloomberg with the following statement. "Daschle says health-care reform will not be pain free. Seniors should be more accepting of the conditions that come with age instead of treating them."
That reads to me: "Seniors cannot count on government health care and are being pushed to the back of the bus. The older they get, the less coverage they are going to have". We voted these folks in and gave them the power. Now we'd better listen up to what they are saying because we are in the cross hairs and stuck with these guys which is a doomsday scenario for seniors. If that isn't shocking info and a primary reason to begin exercising now, I don't know what is.
We have to prempt illness or we suffer.
That's the bottom line.
