New Gadget
I have been quietly lusting for a small pair of speakers which would faithfully reproduce the sound heard when I do final video & audio testing on DVD's created for customers.
When I sampled the new Audioengine 2 speakers out of California, I was amazed.
Sorry, Bose.  You just got blown out of the water, and for a lot less money.

So what I needed was a set of small speakers with huge sound so as not to take up too much room around my editing station and the Samsung 23" HD TV I use for final viewing which is snugged along side. Unfortunately, the 2 year old Audioengine 5's were a bit too big at 10"h x 7"w.  But now they have come out with a smaller version (Audioengine 2) with the same techno stuff, and are they SWEET.  I keep playing footage over and over, just to listen to it.

I'm not going into the specs here, but I will point out some of the features.
The amp is built-in so no receiver is needed.
IPOD charging and connection.  My son says it's the best he's seen for an IPOD.
Airport Express power which allows you to stream through your laptop.  They are working on a case for portability.
2 audio inputs (in my case) for both computer and TV.
AC power jack to plug in other stuff.
Price:  $350 for the 10" and $200 for the smaller size.  (No unit at Best Buy came anywhere close to the quality and price.  For lesser mortals, I suppose.)  I'm thinking about getting another pair for SurroundSound.  I just can't help it.
They have a subwoffer unit and wireless is available, too.  Maybe later on those.

I was just lucky to know somebody who knew somebody to get mine before the dealers received theirs. I fully endorse these products.  Tell them Jack sent you and you might get fifty cents off. I don't have much pull.

So who are these people who make Audioengine?  One guy who used to be a project manager for Apple and the other an engineer for Apple who had their own ideas about quality, durability and customer happiness.

Their Website: http://www.audioengineusa.com/index.htm  Go to the testimonial page.  These are the top audiophile folks talking, so you can ignore what I have to say.
